How Alcohol Affected My ADHD | Millie Mackintosh
5/21/20261 hr 11 min
We’re joined by original Made In Chelsea icon Millie Mackintosh. Millie opens up about the reality of growing up in boarding school, being bullied by other girls, struggling with undiagnosed ADHD and how alcohol became a way to cope with anxiety, insecurity and the pressure of being in the public eye. We get into the early days of Made In Chelsea, what filming the show was REALLY like behind the scenes, getting the bus to set before pretending to arrive in a Bentley, the chaos of reality TV fame and the truth about those iconic MIC moments. Millie also speaks honestly about addiction, panic attacks, “hangxiety”, motherhood, sobriety and the moment she realised she had to stop drinking for good. Plus we talk ADHD brains, doom spirals, therapy, partying in Monaco, being the class clown at school and why social media comments are completely unhinged. This one is funny, emotional and brutally honest Shop SKIMS Fits Everybody collection at http://www.skims.com/oliviashouse #skimspartner Podcast Description: Welcome to Olivia's House - Olivia Attwood’s stylish, intimate podcast blends sharp humour with unfiltered, heartfelt conversation. The other thing we have in common is boarding school girls.
Millie Mackintosh· Guest0:02
I went to four boarding schools.
Olivia Attwood· Host0:03
Shut the [beep] up. Did you actually?
Millie Mackintosh· Guest0:05
What's- [laughs] ... the story of how Made in Chelsea came to exist and how you ended up on it?
Olivia Attwood· Host0:09
Well, I was, like, in my room trying to get ready for a date, and I, like, walked out in, like, my underwear, and then they were like, "Who are you? You need to be on the show." [laughs] And I got the bus to filming, and then they made me get in a Bentley.
Millie Mackintosh· Guest0:18
[laughs] Now, I have heard you say that you think anxiety is a made-up construct.
Olivia Attwood· Host0:23
[laughs] Whoa, hold on. When did you start thinking about the fact that you wanted to remove alcohol from your life in this serious way?
Millie Mackintosh· Guest0:31
You have the night, you know, things get out of control. At the time, like, you just think you're having fun, even you might know- Mm ... you've taken it a bit far. You wake up the next day and you are just like, "[beep]."
Olivia Attwood· Host0:39
Yeah.
Millie Mackintosh· Guest0:40
I was pitch it.
Olivia Attwood· Host0:41
[gentle music] Hi, dolls. Welcome to Olivia's House. Today's guest is TV personality, fashion and beauty entrepreneur, author, model, and mum to two gorgeous girls. It's Millie Mackintosh. [clapping] Woo!
Millie Mackintosh· Guest1:03
Thank you for having me, finally.
Olivia Attwood· Host1:05
I know, finally. [laughs] I feel like we've been having this conversation for a minute. We've been Instagram friends, we've been DM-ing back and forth, especially the last couple of weeks. We've both been in the trenches.
Millie Mackintosh· Guest1:14
Yeah. [laughs] I think everything you've been posting, I've just been like, "I feel you."
Olivia Attwood· Host1:17
I know. And my, my publicist would wish I'd post less, but also when you see something and you're like, "Okay, that meme or that quote, really, um, I can really relate to that. I'm gonna post it."
Millie Mackintosh· Guest1:25
I know. It's kind of hard not to, even then I'm like, "Oh, I probably shouldn't."
Olivia Attwood· Host1:29
How- I just post it anyway.
