It's Monday the 4th of May. Here's what's making headlines this evening.

  5. Lucy Tassell· Host0:15

Public hearings for the Royal Commission on Antisemitism and Social Cohesion have begun in Sydney with the daughter of a Bondi terror attack victim appearing as the first witness. Shayna Gutnick's 62-year-old father, Rouven Morrison, was killed after he threw a brick at one of the gunmen behind the 14th of December attack. Gutnick told the commission she was the target of an antisemitic incident in December 2024 when she was out with her baby. Gutnick said she was walking through Westfield Bondi Junction when a man pointed at her Star of David necklace and called her an effing terrorist. She said she felt shocked and exposed and started to question her safety in public. An initial block of hearings for the Royal Commission will continue until the 15th of May. More hearings will probe the circumstances surrounding the Bondi terror attack in June, and a third hearing block will address antisemitism in the institutions and industries, including education. A final report is due before the end of the year.
