Has Trump’s Iran ceasefire just collapsed?

5/8/202622 min

US strikes on Iran once more. The Trump administration says they are in response to Iran targeting US destroyers in the Strait of Hormuz.

We have the details. Is the tenuous ceasefire that was hanging by a thread now completely over?

Plus - the Brazilian president has been to the White House. Left meets right, socialism meets capitalism - Lula has met Donald.

Meanwhile, pretender to Trump's throne Marco Rubio seeks peace with the pontiff. He's in Rome to smooth over the cracks in the White House-Vatican relationship.

And Trump has had his say on World Cup ticket prices. He's saying he wouldn't cough up either.

[upbeat music] Sky News, the full story first.

  2. James Matthews· Host0:05

Mark, it's good to have you back. What have you been up to?

  3. Mark Stone· Host0:12

Yeah, good to be back, James. It's a quirk of our job, isn't it, that when someone is particularly unwell, we have to either write their obituary just in case, you know- [chuckles] ... the worst happens or update it. And so I have been in the edit room for the past few days just sorting an obituary out. But I am glad to say that for now it will remain on the shelf.

  4. James Matthews· Host0:31

Yeah, well, I'm currently doing an obituary for somebody else whose- [chuckles] ... you know, whose health is relatively okay, but he or she is very busy. I have to update this thing every day. It did make me wonder, though, Mark, see obituaries.

  5. Mark Stone· Host0:43

    Mm.

  6. James Matthews· Host0:43

What if we were doing each other's obituaries?

  7. Mark Stone· Host0:45

    Oh, dear.

  8. James Matthews· Host0:46

I would start with a young producer who I met i-in London about, I don't know- You've put me under pressure now [chuckles] twenty years ago going places- Who produced a very nice piece about Gordon Brown for you. Oh, we did. Yeah, yeah. One of the finest pieces I've done. [chuckles] So, uh, I'd go back to that, and then I'd maybe, uh, draft the podcast years, which would have to include you singing Celine Dion famously.

  9. Mark Stone· Host1:06

    I'm proud of that, James.

  10. James Matthews· Host1:07

    The most famous.

  11. Mark Stone· Host1:07

Episode fifty-four. Go back. [chuckles] Go back and find it, you can hear me singing Celine Dion. I don't know what yours would be. It would, it'd be all the outtakes of that we [snaps finger]- Yeah. [chuckles] ... do it again. I'll do... The, the click of the fingers.

  12. James Matthews· Host1:19

    The gags they didn't include.

  13. Mark Stone· Host1:20

There are so many. [chuckles] There are so many. [upbeat music] I'm Mark Stone.

  14. James Matthews· Host1:26

And I'm James Matthews. We're both in the Trump One Hundred studio.
