5/1/20261 hr
This episode of My Best Coach with Harry Maguire is produced in partnership with Gillette.
Ian Wright sits down with Harry Maguire and his dad, Alan, who played an instrumental role in his career.
The Manchester United centre-back reveals what Michael Carrick is really like in the dressing room and the impact he has made this season.
They look back on Harry’s journey from being coached by his dad to an £80 million move to one of the biggest clubs in world football, including whether the pressure of that transfer fee affected him.
Harry Maguire also opens up on one of the toughest periods of his career, becoming the focus of online abuse that impacted both his dad and his family.
Together, they discuss what happened behind the scenes and how he came through it.
The conversation also covers Harry Maguire’s contact from José Mourinho, losing the Manchester United captaincy, signing a new deal, and his 2026 FIFA World Cup dreams.

[wine pouring] Okay, that's ... You know what? You've gotta give that a little bit of a [glass tapping] give it a little bit of a shake.

What are we doing here today, Ian?
Ian Wright· Host0:13
We're gonna interview the great Harry Maguire, a player I very much admire. Admire his journey. And we're gonna be talking about the best coach he's had. Who's been the one that's helped him the most through everything. [glass clinking] He's perfect. He's perfect to talk to, for what he's been through, what he's done, how he's come through. I'm gonna start. You know what I'm gonna do? I'm gonna let that just, like ... I'm gonna let it, I'm gonna let it settle. Just let it settle. People feel you just jump on straight away with the Raisin. No, you just let it settle a bit.

[gentle music] Tell you what, it smells nice. What do you know about Ian Wright, Harry? I know that he is a very good guy, an amazing footballer, and an even better person. Do you see any similarities between his career and your career? I must say, Ian was a tad before I was, uh, watching football on a regular basis. Um, I've seen a lot of his highlights, and I know that he was an amazing finisher, and that's not something I am, so [laughs] I'd say we're not similar on the football pitch, but I do think he's had an amazing career, and- Would you have liked to have marked him? No, not really.
Ian Wright· Host1:26
So yeah, so I'm gonna be doing that with the big man, so looking forward to it.
