Phil Gould opens up on the Bulldogs’ rough month, explains where confidence has dropped away, how injuries have hurt the side, and why the pressure of playing for a club like Canterbury can quickly overwhelm younger players when results turn south.
Gus breaks down why the Bulldogs’ defence-first DNA is being tested in today’s NRL and why simply defending your way to wins is no longer enough.
Plus, a State of Origin debate. Did Laurie Daley get it wrong dropping Dylan Edwards for James Tedesco? Was Reece Walsh unlucky to miss out? And is the Cameron Munster and Sam Walker halves combination a gamble that could define the series?

[upbeat music] Welcome. Great to be with you for another episode of "Six Tackles With Gus," presented by our great friends at Tab, and we are exactly one week away from Origin One at Sydney's Accor Stadium. Cannot wait to get there, and of course, you'll be able to watch all the action of Origin exclusively live here on Nine's wide world of sports. Both teams are about to train for the first time in the week as they, uh, get ready for the start of another series. Plenty of news around, uh, club football as well, and we'll have a look at, uh, what is a reduced round 12 with this man, Phil Gould. Welcome.
Phil Gould· Host0:33
Matthew Thompson, how you doing?
Mathew Thompson· Host0:35
I'm going good, thanks. You well?
Phil Gould· Host0:36
Good.
Mathew Thompson· Host0:37
Uh, we've got some news off the top. The teams for Vegas next year.
Phil Gould· Host0:42
Oh, good.
Mathew Thompson· Host0:43
We kind of knew who they were going to be because they're the only ones that haven't had a run so far. So the West Tigers are going to play Melbourne.
Phil Gould· Host0:50
Yep.
Mathew Thompson· Host0:51
Parramatta are going to play the Gold Coast, and the two British clubs will be Bradford and Leigh.
Phil Gould· Host0:56
Wonderful. Well, it'll be a great experience for all those clubs and all those players, and there's a lot of work and a lot of preparation goes into it. We went through it this year, and it's a, it's a mighty event and, um, it'll be a life, a life experience for all of them, all those that go across there and, and, and have a play in that stadium and, uh, be a part of that process for the few days you're there.
Mathew Thompson· Host1:14
Tigers, Melbourne, good way to kick things off. I think the Tigers will be suited by all the bright lights of Vegas- I think they'll- ... there's a few showing in that team ...
Phil Gould· Host1:21
I think they'll adapt to it very nicely.
Mathew Thompson· Host1:22
They'll be fine.
Phil Gould· Host1:23
Yeah, they'll be fine.
Mathew Thompson· Host1:24
Indeed, they will. Um, plenty to talk about today, but it would be remiss of me not to start with
