Hey, it's Zach. Today, a weirdly helpful antidote to creative stuckness. [upbeat music] And also, how can we face our fears and then turn that into something beautiful? With my guest, who had construction going on at her house.
Sharon Mashihi· Guest0:18
I am sitting in the backseat of a parked car in Ditmas Park, Brooklyn, New York. I'm Sharon Maschihi, and what I find weirdly helpful is when I'm working on my art, giving all of my attention to whatever is annoying me or whatever is preoccupying me.
Zak Rosen· Host0:43
I have been an unsuccessful meditator for all of my adult life. I think I get the instructions. Pay attention to your breath, and then if you notice a thought, just let it pass. Don't let it fester. Don't focus on it. That's how Sharon learned to meditate too.
Sharon Mashihi· Guest1:07
And it only kind of worked for me because it's really hard to actually notice when I have a thought, and sometimes certain thoughts would just, like, take over so completely that I wouldn't really be able to come back to my breath, or it would just feel like I was in a fight where I would be like, "I'm trying to meditate."
Zak Rosen· Host1:26
Yeah.
Sharon Mashihi· Guest1:26
And then this thought would be like, "But I'm angry about this thing."
