It must be magic, or those objects must have some cosmic importance. So we've been doing our best to interpret them for 100,000 years, and weaving narratives about them that satisfied our curiosity, and that practice hasn't changed. Even today, humans look up at the Moon and form some belief, and many of those beliefs have become persistent myths that remain widely believed.
