Madonna was dressed as a ship. The Kardashian sisters committed to a sliding scale of breast plates. Lisa had some extra arms. And it was ‘bring your daughter to the carpet’ day for Nicole Kidman and Beyoncé.
Yes, today was the first Monday in May on the other side of the world, which means it was the Met Gala, which means Mia has a lot of thoughts about the best red (not red) carpet of the year.

There's just so much- You're listening to a Mamamia podcast.
Mia Freedman· Host0:03
Fashion is art just means nothing.
Holly Wainwright· Host0:08
Well, I thought that's kind of the theme every year. 'Cause it's- That's why ... the Met is an art museum, and this is the costume bit- It is ... for the art museum.
Mia Freedman· Host0:15
They made it- It's very true, actually ... they made it as simple as possible, and yet no one understood the brief.
Holly Wainwright· Host0:20
Explain that.
Mia Freedman· Host0:22
I want to see on my Met ... Okay, firstly- Mm ... the Met Gala red carpet for the past, I wanna say, few years, have just looked like the Oscars. The Met Gala red carpet- Oh, I don't think they have.
Emily Vernem· Host0:34
I think that they're often usually r- quite conceptual. Like when it was camp and Katy Perry came as a hamburger.
Mia Freedman· Host0:39
That was good. [laughs] Every year- I don't see that at the Oscars or the LGBTQIF+ ... and Jared Leto with his half of his head off as well. And even like Blake Lively as, like, the Statue of Liberty. But every year- Yeah ... after that, I've just felt like no one's bringing it anymore, 'cause everyone is just too concerned with looking hot. And this is their one- Yeah ... carpet where they shouldn't be concerned with that. We don't care if you're hot, we just wanna see- Mate, did you see- ... a Heidi Klum.
Holly Wainwright· Host1:01
I was gonna say, Heidi K- ... See, I disagree. Like, I think the, the silly, silly outfits- Mm ... I feel like I'm at an embarrassing costume party. Like, Heidi Klum, stop it. Like, just no.
Mia Freedman· Host1:13
Ugh.
Holly Wainwright· Host1:13
Like, that's ridiculous. That, that- What was she wearing, Holls? This is ... She was dressed as some kind of statue.
Mia Freedman· Host1:19
Like a Greek statue.
Emily Vernem· Host1:19
A beautiful Greek goddess statue.
Mia Freedman· Host1:21
Carved out of marble.
Holly Wainwright· Host1:22
And literally a mask on it- Mm ... and down, and she couldn't really move.
Mia Freedman· Host1:25
It's very Halloween.
Emily Vernem· Host1:25
Because fashion is art, Holly.
Holly Wainwright· Host1:27
But that wasn't fashion, darl.
Emily Vernem· Host1:28
It was art.
Holly Wainwright· Host1:29
No, but it
