6/5/20261 hr 52 min
Ahead of the the national championship's return to Shinnecock Hills in two weeks, Andy, Brendan, and Kevin Van Valkenburg continue their rewatch of the 1986 majors with a Flashback Friday on Raymond Floyd's U.S. Open win. The three share their favorite moments from Sunday's round, available for viewing on the USGA's YouTube Channel. They discuss the main stars of the day, including Floyd, Greg Norman, and Lee Trevino, and give some takes on the ABC broadcast itself. In a new add to these major rewatch episodes, Andy, Brendan, and KVV hand out awards such as "The Patrick Cantlay Housecat of the Week" and "The Tommy Fleetwood Memorial Yellow Square" to players who deserved some recognition for their efforts 40 years ago. Kevin sends this episode off with some detailed research about Raymond Floyd's off-the-course business ventures, including the management of a first-of-its-kind band in the United States!

Now, the Shotgun Start in golf is full of mathematics. Um, there's a lot of, a lot of setup work that we have to do in order to make a tournament work. So I'm gonna demonstrate to you just exactly how we do a shotgun start here.
Kevin Van Valkenburg· Guest0:13
And here we go.
Andy Johnson· Host0:17

[upbeat music] Greetings, and welcome to a Friday edition of the Shotgun Start. It is June 5th. Andy, how we doing?
Andy Johnson· Host0:46
Brendan, I'm doing fantastic. Uh, how about you?
Brendan Porath· Host0:50
I'm good. I'm good. It's, uh, getting into the throes of summer. Not quite there yet for the school front, but the US Open is bearing down. We are joined by Kevin Van Valckenburgh today for this Friday episode. Uh, it's gonna be another beefy, re-watchable, uh, past major championship hangout. It's sort of a big flashback Friday, beefy flashback Friday on the 1986 US Open. Uh, maybe we'll just do this for the British to complete the, complete the trio so far, then the PGA in August, 'cause we did the '86 Masters in April, uh, if you'll recall. And now we're gonna do it for the US Open, which was also at Shinnecock Hills.

I'm just happy
