  1. Sister Mary Bethany· Guest0:00

So I think realizing prayer is not just some kind of secret knowledge that some people have it, some people don't. You're either, you have... You know, it's kind of like you're either good at basketball or you're not. Um, no, like prayer is something, prayerfulness is a habit you build. You need to be like recollected to spend quality time with someone.

  2. Sister Miriam· Host0:18

    Mm-hmm.

  3. Sister Mary Bethany· Guest0:18

You can't just be multitasking. You know, like- [laughs] ... if you're, if I'm not thinking about you and I'm just like making dinner, and you're trying to like actually share something- Mm-hmm ... really beautiful. I heard of one sister for lent, she tried to drive the speed limit, like the whole time.

  4. Sister Miriam· Host0:32

[laughs] So she gave up speeding, you're saying?

  5. Sister Mary Bethany· Guest0:34

Yeah, she gave up speeding. [laughs] And she's like, "I wanna like work on having a more, like a contemplative pace of life." So- [laughs] ... that's drastic. Depending where you live, that might actually be a safety hazard.

[whimsical music] Hi, and welcome to Dominican Sisters Open Mic. My name is Sister Miriam, and I'm a sister of the Dominican Sisters of Mary, Mother of the Eucharist, based out of Ann Arbor, Michigan. Each week we'll be sitting down with a sister of our community to discuss various topics, all things Dominican. And today we have with us our very own Sister Mary Bethany. Thank you for coming, Sister.
