Ep. 20: What the Church Believes – Catechesis and the Fullness of Truth (Sr. Elizabeth Ann, O.P.)
6/10/202651 min
Sr. Miriam sits down with Sr. Elizabeth Ann, O.P., to explore one of the Church's most essential missions — passing on the faith in its fullness. Together they dive into what catechesis truly is, why it matters far beyond a classroom, and how the Church has always understood itself as a community called to hand on the living truth of the Gospel from one generation to the next.
Central to their conversation is Echoing the Mystery, a beautifully crafted catechetical resource, designed to help Catholics encounter the deposit of faith not just as information to be learned, but as a mystery to be lived. If you've ever wondered what it really means to know and share what the Church believes, this episode is for you.

And I, and I love it because, you know, I've seen the sisters, uh, you know, developing these materials for years now, and I have used some of them in my classes, and, uh, and just always felt like I wanted more time, you know, to investigate what, what we're actually doing and know it better, and, uh, be able to tell other people about it. And now I have the, the time to do that. So the... I was thinking about vocation. You know, even the whole idea, like, that you have a vocation- Okay ... that there's purpose, you know, in your life.

That you were made for something was, like, w- was all just a new idea to me. One night, there's this beautiful chapel on campus. It's called the, the Porciuncula. It's a, it's a, it's a, it's a rebuilt version of- Mm ... what Saint Francis built in Assisi. And I was there praying the Eucharistic adoration. It's all students. It was like the middle of the night. And, um, I was just praying and praying and, like, you know, longing for clarity, and, uh, and the Lord just gave me the gift of clarity. So in a, in a moment, He... It was just in- He was like, "You can't give your heart to this guy because your heart is made for me."
Miriam· Host0:54
Mm.

"And you're only gonna be satisfied if you give your whole heart to me."

Mm.

And I was so much at peace with that, and- Wow ... you know, suddenly it made sense why I just loved hanging around the sisters and, you know, was so drawn to talking to them.

And, and, uh, and, uh, so that was, that was the real turning point.
