EMMA MYERS: How Netflix’s Wednesday Made Me Famous Overnight. I Wasn’t Prepared for How My Life Would Change

6/16/202658 min

Emma Myers' life changed almost overnight when *‘*Wednesday’ became a global hit on Netflix. Her role as Enid Sinclair made her an instant fan favourite and quickly launched her into the spotlight.

Since then she’s gone on to lead A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder and star in the record-breaking Minecraft movie. But long before the world knew her name, Emma was a homeschooled kid who often felt like the odd one out.

In our conversation, Emma opens up about the whirlwind of overnight fame, working with the likes of Jenna Ortega and Jack Black, and how she's learned to stay grounded in an industry that moves at a thousand miles an hour.

In this episode, Emma shares:

  • Growing up homeschooled and feeling like she didn’t fit in
  • Auditioning for Wednesday and how it changed her life overnight
  • Her thoughts on fans shipping her and Jenna Ortega
  • How her faith got her through her darkest moments

Emma is a reminder that life-changing moments don't have to be daunting and that sometimes the biggest changes can be the best thing that can happen.

I never went to school ever.

    Ever?

  16. Emma Myers· Guest0:30

I was homeschooled. Being the odd one out, people being fake nice and, you know, inviting you to things just to make fun of you.

  17. Jamie Laing· Host0:38

    You had that experience?

  18. Emma Myers· Guest0:39

Oh my God, so many times.

  19. Jamie Laing· Host0:41

    Are you serious?

  20. Emma Myers· Guest0:42

When the show first came out and I was just starting to look at the reactions and stuff, like, I couldn't help myself. It was almost an addiction.

  21. Jamie Laing· Host0:48

Explain to me what that is like.

  22. Emma Myers· Guest0:50

Getting valida- validation from this thing that you've put so much work into.

  23. Jamie Laing· Host0:53

    Yeah.

  24. Emma Myers· Guest0:54

But at the same time it's so damaging. People s- you know, spread rumors about my family, seeing my friends get called parasites and leeches for posting pictures with me. I didn't know how to handle it.

  25. Jamie Laing· Host1:05

There was a whole fan fiction that Jenna and you were went into like a platonic relationship.

  26. Emma Myers· Guest1:08

Yeah. Jenna is the most amazing person ever. I'm less worried about people shipping us and more of the fact that they harass other people who get close to one another because they want us to be together.

  27. Jamie Laing· Host1:21

Wow. What is Jack Black like behind the scenes? He feels like an amazing improv actor. Because it's such a big show, how secretive do you have to be about it? I'm not gonna
