The personal mind creates suffering by making everything be about “me,” which generates fears about the future and attachments to the past. These stored impressions form the ego, which distorts reality and causes continuous psychological disturbance. Liberation comes from letting go of these patterns and practicing acceptance—learning to handle whatever arises without resistance.

Jai Guru Dev. Dai Masres. There's one topic that if you wanna grow spiritually, personally, we're having a look at it, you better get down on, and that's the topic of mind. Lots of people talk about mind, how to control your mind, how to use it to get what you want. There's so many different things you can do with your mind, aren't there? The trouble is, mind is not a solution, mind is a problem. Not all of mind. There's two different distinct layers of mind. There are many, but that's the big categories. There is the personal mind, and there's the impersonal mind. Which is the personal mind? The one that uses the word I, me, and mine all the time. What do I like? What do I not like? What do I want? What are my dreams? What are my hopes? What do I believe in? What do I not believe in? What is my religion? Who are my children? Who is my spouse? What hurt me in the past? What do I never want to happen aga- Wow. Anything ever going on in there? That is the personal mind. Why is it the personal mind? 'Cause it's about you. Does the mind have to be about you? No. The mind doesn't have to be about you. The mind can be... Well, the astronauts just went up into space. All of NASA, all these wonderful people did all this work. They were not I'ing.
