Counter Terrorism Police Investigating Ann Widdecombe Death
7/13/202628 min
Today, counter terrorism police are now leading the investigation into Ann Widdecombe’s death. A 28-year-old man who was arrested on suspicion of murder has been re-arrested on suspicion of commission, preparation or instigation of acts of terrorism.
The investigation was previously being handled by Devon and Cornwall police who had previously said there was "nothing to suggest" the murder was politically motivated. Counter terrorism Policing South East said the change had come after “new information and evidence has come to light during what has been a dynamic and complex investigation”.
Adam, Chris and Danny Shaw, policing and criminal justice commentator to discuss what we know so far.

[newscast music] Hello. So over the weekend, Laura and Paddy were covering some of the updates on the investigation into the death of Anne Widdecombe, uh, the Reform UK spokesperson and former Conservative minister who was found dead at her home on Dartmoor on Thursday. Well, during the day on Monday, there have been some other big developments. First of all, the twenty-eight-year-old suspect who was arrested on Saturday has been re-arrested, and the investigation is now being handled by counterterrorism policing. Counterterrorism policing South East said it was because new information had come to light during what they were describing as a dynamic and complex investigation. So we will discuss all of those developments on this latest episode of Newscast.
