Corentin Moutet: Why I Couldn’t Stop Breaking Rackets

7/13/202657 min

Corentin Moutet is known for playing—and reacting—differently. But behind the emotional moments and public labels is a player trying to understand why losing once felt unbearable, why tennis celebrates personality and then punishes it, and how to find peace in a sport he still loves.

In this honest conversation with Caroline Garcia and Borja Durán, Corentin explains why he never learned how to lose, how winning became connected to his self-worth, why he struggled to control his emotions, and what facing Carlos Alcaraz revealed about his game.

He also opens up about being misunderstood as lazy, the freedom he finds through music, his unique relationship with Roland-Garros, why he believes tennis culture must evolve, and the goal that matters more to him than rankings or money: finding peace before his career ends.

Grief is a part of being human. The objects around us are tangible vessels of emotion that, when recognized, become intentional artifacts able to hold our griefs so that we can spend time honoring what we've lost and why those losses matter. I'm Elliot.

[upbeat music] Breaking rackets, I know that's not the way doing things like this. I don't wanna do it. When I lose a set, it's so hard. I don't know how to not break the racket. I want to, but I can't. When you lose, it's so good because the opponent show you your weak spots, what you have to improve, what you have to do better. I still have so many things to learn. I'm not still happy about the way I play tennis, the way I enjoy the tour. It's still painful. I wanna find the peace in my activity before I can stop. Roland Garros, I feel like I can beat anybody. I always say to my coaches, "In two weeks, maybe I am a Grand Slam champion."
