Chris Hayes on Calibrating Your AI Anxiety
5/15/202647 min
How should you feel about the AI boom? In this episode of Galaxy Brain, Charlie Warzel speaks with Chris Hayes about how to emotionally calibrate our response to this dizzying AI moment. Hayes describes why AI gives him “The Bad Feeling,” and how it led him to report on AI like an anthropologist would. The two discuss why AI is described as “the jagged frontier,” and they explore the distinction between using AI for creative thinking versus grunt work. Lighting is incredibly powerful because it reaches places that we can't see. When I was at RPI, my grandmother contracted a MRSA infection in a hospital. One of the cornerstones of my RPI training was to identify real-world problems and engineer solutions accordingly. That's what led me to essentially start VIVE, using light in order to kill germs in indoor environments. I don't think we would've been able to build it into a successful business without RPI.

The Hilton sale is on now. Book on hilton.com or the Hilton app and save up to 20% to get the stay you expected. When you want savings, not surprises, it matters where you stay. Hilton. For the stay.

If you're having it do your brainstorming, like, your brainstorming muscles are gonna get weaker. [laughs] And I don't want my brain... Th- I- That's my livelihood. My career is coming up with stuff. I gotta keep that. I gotta keep that sharp. Now, maybe in five years they'll just have an AI do my show, and the AI will generate all the takes, and the AI will talk, and I'll be out of a job.
Charlie Warzel· Host1:25
Right.
Chris Hayes· Guest1:25
Fine. But until that happens, I don't want the AI doing that.
