In this episode of The Thinking Muslim, renowned Middle East analyst Mouin Rabbani joins us for a deep and unfiltered conversation on the escalating tensions surrounding Iran and the shifting global order.
The discussion opens by examining whether the recent ceasefire represents a genuine strategic win for Trump - or something far more fragile. It then turns to the intensifying bombing campaign in Lebanon, exposing the stark imbalance on the ground and what it reveals about the trajectory of the conflict.
Can the region return to the pre-February status quo, or has a permanent shift already taken place?
The conversation expands to the role of the Gulf States, evolving security arrangements, and who is ultimately emerging as the real loser in this confrontation. With global stakes rising, Rabbani also unpacks China’s strategic calculations - particularly its interest in the Strait of Hormuz - and whether US actions are inadvertently accelerating Beijing’s influence.
The episode also explores the ideological forces shaping Western policy, including the intersection of extreme Christianity, imperialism, and Zionism.

Moin Rabbani, it's, uh, great to have you with us. Thanks, uh, for joining us here at The Thinking Muslim.
Mouin Rabbani· Guest0:10
Thank you, and it's a pleasure to be on your program.
Muhammad Jalal· Host0:13
Well, it's wonderful to have you with us. Now, we're talking the day after the ceasefire was announced. Uh, this is a ceasefire, of course, between the Americans and Iranians, and it was actually Pakistan that first broke the news, uh, just an hour and a half before Trump's deadline, where he promised to, uh, destroy Iranian civilization. I suppose my first question for you, Moin, is, was this a victory for Trump's tough guy diplomacy or another example of, uh, the bataco idea that, you know, Trump always, uh, chickens out? I- is it an example of, of, uh, American capitulation?
Mouin Rabbani· Guest0:49
It's a very good question, but given, um, the thorough unreliability and unpredictability of, um, the US government and this leader in particular, it's also a difficult question, uh, to answer. What we do know is that on Tuesday morning, Trump issued his, uh, genocidal threat, um, you know, we're going to end, uh, Iranian civilization and it will never return. And then a few hours later, not only, uh, accepted, um, uh, a ceasefire that was apparently mediated by Pakistan, um, with the assistance
