4/27/202650 min
Jeff Blair and Kevin Barker look back on the Toronto Blue Jays' weekend series win over the Cleveland Guardians. They discuss Max Scherzer's inconsistent start, the bullpen hierarchy without a clearly defined closer, Kazuma Okamoto's improvements, the next steps for Jesús Sánchez, and Ernie Clement's play in the lead-off spot. Then, Red Sox reporter Rob Bradford stops by (30:14) to discuss why Boston decided to fire manager Alex Cora and overhaul their coaching staff before May, the ups and downs on the mound, and potential further consequences if they can't turn it around this season.

[upbeat music] All right. Welcome to Blair and Barker, brought to you by Capital One. Capital One, giving credit to over four million Canadians, and counting. Well, that was quite a weekend in Major League Baseball. Here in Toronto, the Blue Jays took two of three from the Cleveland Guardians, winning consecutive series for the first time this year. And as, uh, John Schneider said, the goal right now is to basically stack series wins on top of each other. I mean, it's 27 games in the season, that's what you're gonna do. Hopefully you put a winning streak together at some point, but in the meantime, stack series wins on top of each other. Tonight, the Jays open a three-game series against the Boston Red Sox, who are, uh, I mean, crisis team? I don't know if I- The players don't care ... they were... Well, that's actually not true.
Kevin Barker· Host1:03

Jeff Blair· Host1:04
Mm. Well, we'll talk to Rob Bradford later. That's not true. They're- Ah, come on ... there were... No. There were a lot of... Well, what do I know? All I know is that a bunch of players talked to the Boston writers afterwards, and they weren't happy, so whatever. Um- Well, I mean, they weren't supposed to be doing that.
Kevin Barker· Host1:19
Weren't they told not to say anything?
Jeff Blair· Host1:21
Doesn't matter. Doesn't matter. Guys talk off the record. They, they do. That's the way it is, so.
Kevin Barker· Host1:26
I heard a shortstop and a reliever say something.
Jeff Blair· Host1:29
On the record.
