6/9/202617 min
Athletes get all the glory, but there are countless people around them making the games happen - from referees making judgments, to vendors in the stands hawking snacks and beer. In this episode from The StoryCorps Podcast, drawn from our archive of the largest single collection of human voices ever recorded, you’ll hear from the people on the sidelines.

1. What’s a word or phrase that only someone from your profession would be likely to know and what does it mean?
2. What’s a specific story you tell your friends that happened on the job? It could be funny, sad, anxiety-making, pride-inducing or otherwise.
We can’t respond to every message, but we do listen to all of them! We’ll follow up if it's a good fit.

Hey, folks. Dan here. We've got a bonus show this week. We're sharing an episode from the StoryCorps podcast. StoryCorps draws on one of the largest archives of human voices ever recorded to find amazing stories hidden in ordinary lives. You may remember, I've shouted out to StoryCorps before on our show, and I have to tell you, I've been to the StoryCorps archive at the Library of Congress. It's an incredible resource. I even applied for a job there 21 years ago, so I'm a huge fan, it's safe to say. Today, you're gonna hear a sample episode from them about jobs from the sports world, but it's not focused on the athletes. It's focused on the folks who do the work to make a game happen, among them, an NBA referee and a stadium beer vendor, both professions we featured on this show, too. I think you're gonna love this one. Very similar spirit to our show. What follows is the Sideliners episode from the StoryCorps podcast.
