#BecauseMiami: The Long Con
6/12/202643 min
This week, Billy Corben welcomes educator Elijah Manley, who is running for Florida's Congressional District 20 seat....a gerrymandered district that is majority black that historically has had black leadership. But now, a new white candidate (who doesn't even live there) in Debbie Wasserman Schultz is also running for the seat. Also on the show, Elaine de Valle from Political Cortadito talks about a shady deal involving PortMiami's fuel depot.

Today, I'm announcing my candidacy for re-election in Congressional District 20, because we cannot let Trump destroy Broward County's power.

The district encompasses the heart of the Black community in Broward County. 40% of the district is African American and has been represented by Black leaders for more than 30 years, Alcee Hastings and then Sheila "Sheriff" Lis-McCormick. But after Ron DeSantis's redistricting efforts, District 20 was likely the safest seat for Wasserman Schultz to run in. As you might imagine, the announcement elicited strong reactions from some in the Black community.
