A Wife’s Long Search for Justice: Christine Levinson Speaks Out

5/5/202653 min

This episode is a deeply personal and emotional conversation with Christine Levinson about the disappearance of her husband, former FBI agent Bob Levinson, who vanished in Iran in March 2007. She recounts how what began as a routine business trip quickly turned into a nightmare when he failed to call home, never made it to his next hotel, and was later discovered to have traveled to Iran’s Kish Island without her knowledge. From there, the discussion traces the family’s agonizing early search, the lack of useful help from the U.S. government, the trip Christine and her son made to Iran, and the years of uncertainty before proof-of-life images and video finally emerged showing Bob alive but clearly deteriorating in captivity. The conversation also becomes a broader indictment of how Washington handled the case. Christine describes the frustration of dealing with the FBI, State Department, and White House across multiple administrations, especially when the Obama administration secured a nuclear deal with Iran without bringing Bob home or even securing his remains. She reflects on eventually being told that Bob had died, while his body was never returned, and explains why it is so painful to now see an Iranian official tied to the case participating in present-day diplomacy. The interview closes on both grief and resolve, with Christine emphasizing her children’s strength, the legacy behind the Bob Levinson Act, and her belief that the U.S. government still could and should bring Bob home. Okay. I spoke to Christine Levinson. You may know her if you've followed me over the years, because I've interviewed Christine Levinson and her family since about 2007. This is one of the most disgraceful stories in US history. This is a story where it m- it actually makes me angry, because our government let down a fellow American. Our government could have done something to help Christine Levinson and her family, I believe, but didn't. Her husband, Bob Levinson, who was a former FBI agent, disappeared in Iran. And then what did the US government do? Not much. In fact, when the, when the Obama administration negotiated that nuclear deal with Iran, did they say, "Oh yeah, could you also send back the remains of Bob Levinson? Because Bob Levinson's wife and his kids would like to bury him." Nope, didn't do that. Not at all. And wanna know what's even worse? Wait until you hear who is negotiating on behalf of the Iranian government now to end the war. It's a very familiar name to the Levinson family. This video should make your blood boil. Here's Christine Levinson. [upbeat music] Christine, nice to see you again.
