[upbeat music] You're listening to a Complexly podcast. [upbeat music] Hello, and welcome to Dear Hank & John.
John Green· Host0:11
Or, as I prefer to think of it, Dear John & Hank.
Hank Green· Host0:13
It's a podcast where two brothers answer your questions, give you dubious advice, and bring you all the week's news from both Mars and AFC Wimbledon. John, do you know why they call it chickenpox?
John Green· Host0:22
No, why?
Hank Green· Host0:23
Actually, nobody does.
John Green· Host0:25
Really?
Hank Green· Host0:26
Yeah. It is, uh, up for debate. We're not sure. It might... It... The, the most likely reason, and this is the silliest and worst reason- Yeah ... is that, uh, the French, at some point, called it, uh, chickenpox after chickpeas, and they would call it their version of chickpox.
John Green· Host0:44

John Green· Host1:00
Huh?
Hank Green· Host1:02
Like, it's, like it's the wussy version of smallpox.
John Green· Host1:05
Oh, it's like the chicken version of smallpox. Okay.
Hank Green· Host1:08
Yeah.
John Green· Host1:08
I get... I g- I can get into that.
Hank Green· Host1:10
Yeah.
John Green· Host1:11
I... Like, they call cowpox cowpox because you got it from cows. They, they didn't think in the past- 100% ... that you got it from chickens?
Hank Green· Host1:16
No, no, no, no. They never thought you got it from chickens. That was never a thing.
John Green· Host1:19
Wow. Well.
Hank Green· Host1:21
Yeah. There is no animal reservoir for chickenpox, which means it is eradicable.
John Green· Host1:25
And indeed will be eradicated in the fullness of time because- I, man, I think it will be
