#230: How to Teach Repair Skills with Jeanna & Mary

6/22/20261 hr 2 min

Are you ready to share mending skills with others? Mary Morton and Jeanna Wigger, authors of the excellent book, ‘Stitch It, Don’t Ditch It’, have a ton of practical advice learned through hosting lots of in-person mending events. We discuss the different event formats for sharing skills, how to coordinate with venues and the best free resources available to support your efforts.

Plus, there’s audio from the last event I attended with Jeanna and Mary on their tour of the North of England taken at Left Bank Leeds, a truly awesome creative and inclusive space that serves and supports its diverse community.

Are you ready to share mending skills with others? Mary Morton and Gina Wigger, authors of the excellent book Stitch It, Don't Ditch It, have a ton of practical advice learned through hosting lots of in-person mending events. We discuss the different event formats for sharing skills, how to coordinate with venues, and the best free resources available to support your efforts. Plus, at the start of the episode, you'll hear audio from the last event I attended with Gina and Mary on their tour of the north of England, taken at Left Bank Leeds, a truly awesome, creative, and inclusive space that serves and supports its diverse community. So stick around a few minutes and we'll crack on with all of that. Welcome to Check Your Thread, the podcast that will help you sew more sustainably. [upbeat music] My name's Zoe and I'm obsessed with sewing. I've been blogging about it for over 18 years and I'm the creator and host of the popular handmade wardrobe challenge, Me Made May. But like many people, I've become increasingly concerned about the climate and ecological crises, and I'm looking for the way that my lifestyle contributes to them. So in this podcast, I'll be nerding out about making clothes whilst exploring how to minimize the negative impact that it may have. I really hope you'll join me in this journey. Hi, lovely one. Are you doing okay? Happy summer solstice in the Northern Hemisphere and winter solstice in the Southern Hemisphere. I celebrated by waking up extra early, thanks to the sun, and getting an extra load of laundry done [laughs]. So thanks, extra hours of daylight. Anyway, in the intro this week, I want to put a little shout-out for submissions for a future episode.
