Chapter 15, Verse 1

श्रीभगवानुवाच |

ऊर्ध्वमूलमध:शाखमश्वत्थं प्राहुरव्ययम् |

छन्दांसि यस्य पर्णानि यस्तं वेद स वेदवित् || 1||

śhrī-bhagavān uvācha

ūrdhva-mūlam adhaḥ-śhākham aśhvatthaṁ prāhur avyayam

chhandānsi yasya parṇāni yas taṁ veda sa veda-vit

⧫ The Blessed Lord said, "They speak of the immutable Ashwatham tree, with its roots above and its branches below, whose leaves are the Vedas." He who knows it is the knower of the Vedas.

    [chanting] So, the Bhagavad Gita, we were on chapter 14. We completed chapter 14 last time. If you look at the verse, last verse, "Brahmāṇo hi pratiṣṭhāham amṛtasya vyayasya ca śāśvatasya ca dharmasya sukhasya ekāntikasya ca." He says here, "I am the firm foundation of Brahman. I am the ground of Brahman," which is a little surprising because what's the general Advaitic framework which we are used to? Here is the world, Sanskrit, jagat. We are sentient beings, Sanskrit, jiva. And there is a power, God, who is in charge of the world, who is the creator, preserver, destroyer of the world. The world cycle exists in that. In, um, Vedanta it is called Saguna Brahman, Brahman with attributes. Other names are Bhagavan, Ishvara, basically the God of
