150. Why is my ADHD kid MEAN!?

6/15/202631 min

Have you noticed that when your ADHD kid is dysregulated it comes out as being plain nasty?! For lack of a better word, they turn into a total asshole! New EEG research shows that 96% of hyperactive-impulsive ADHD kids have a significant difference in frontal lobe activity during frustrating moments. And the net result is anger and aggression. Of that 96%, 63% is severe. This is important to note, because in neurotypical children, this outcome is 12%. This tells us it's less a behavior choice and more of a wiring reality.

To me, this is empowering. Because now we know more and we can do more with this information. Inside this episode I share some critical mindset shifts as well as practical ways we can start to move the needle forward.

Today we're gonna be talking about the not so fun side of ADHD, and I have an incredible ADHD son. I think a large part of what I do is trying to find that balance between sharing too much, sharing too little, helping you feel seen, heard, and understood, and also just allowing my kid to have his own life. That's a tricky balance, especially when everything feels so hyper emotional, and it can feel like it overtakes the household. It feels like it can overtake my system. So I wanted to really specifically talk about the outward presentation of emotional dysregulation that comes out as our kids just being straight up mean, nasty,
